Passport and Visa
A valid Passport with Entry Visa is required of all
tourist and business-man, applicable at Myanmar
Embassies and Consulate General Offices abroad. Tourist
Visa and business visa are valid for 28 days, extendible
to 14 days for tourists and 3 months for business. Visa
on Arrival is granted on prior arrangement with the
Ministry of Hotels and Tourism to chartered flights and
cruises and to those package groups where Myanmar
Foreign Mission is not stationed. Visa on arrival can
also be arranged on special basis to package group tours
applicable three days in advance to the Ministry of
Hotels and Tourism.

Customs
Foreign currency above US $ 2000, jewels, electrical
equipments and cameras must be declared at the airport.
Export of antiques and archaeologically valuable items
are prohibited.
Duty free allowance
Two bottles of liquor; two cartons of cigarettes; 100
cigar; 1.5 lb of tobacco; one pint of bottle of perfume
or eau de cologne.
Currency
Myanmar currency is the Kyat made up of 100 pyas.
Currency notes come in the following denominations; K
1000, K 500, K 200, K 100, K 90, K 50, K 45, K 20, K 15,
K 10, K 5, K 1 and pyas 50. Visitors are not allowed to
bring in or take out kyats.
Foreign Exchange
Visitors may bring in any amount of foreign currency but
it must be declared to customs if it exceeds US $ 2000.
Foreign Exchange Certificate can be purchased with US
Dollars of Pounds Sterling either in cash or Travelers
Cheques. FECs are accepted by hotels, airlines, travel
agencies, taxies, restaurants, and as payment of
admission fees for museums and pagodas. FECs can be
exchanged for Kyats at Market rates at Authorized Money
Changers.
Getting To Myanmar
Myanmar is served internationally by Myanmar Airways
International (UB), Thai Airways International (TG),
Silk Air (MI), Air China (CA), Biman Bangladesh Airlines
(BG), Malaysian Airlines (MA), Indian Airlines (IC), EVA
Air (BR), China Airlines (CI), and Air Mandalay with
Chaing Mai, Thailand. Yangon (Rangoon) has direct links
with Bangkok, Chaing Mai, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Hong
Kong, Kumming, Taipei, Dhaka and Calcutta.
Food
Myanmar cuisine are mainly rice or noodles as staple
dishes , usually served with a variety of side dishes;
curries with meat or fish, vegetables salads, soup,
condiments etc. Curries tend to be less chili-hot than
Thai versions. Chinese, Thai, Indian, Italian and French
restaurants are also found in major cities, but European
cuisine is mostly confined to major hotels at present.
Clothing
Light causal wear for all year round. A cardigan or
light sweater for the cool season especially when
visiting upper Myanmar, like Mandalay or Bagan. An
umbrella will be useful during the rainy season. Sandals
or slippers are convenient as all foot wears must be
taken off when entering the precincts of pagodas and
monasteries. Visitor should not wear shorts or briefs
when visiting pagodas and monasteries.
Local Time
GMT plus 6.5 hours behind Singapore time and 30 minutes
behind Thailand time.

Government Offices : 9:30 – 16:30 hrs
Banks : 10:00 -14:00 hrs
(Saturdays and Sundays are holidays for all government
offices and many businesses.)
Airport Tax
Departure airport tax for international flights is US $
10 per person, payable in
US $ or FECs.
No departure airport tax for domestic flights.
Entrance Fees
Entrance fees are collected at the famous Pagodas,
Temples, Monasteries, Museums, Old Palace and
Archaeological Zones. Tickets are available at the
entrance of the respective places or sites.
Health
No vaccination certificate is required unless coming
from an infected area.
Electric Power Supply
220 volts (AC).
